The first Church of England services were held in the Horse and Jockey Public House in 1850, then at the Slab Court House in Alice Street. A wooden church was erected in 1857 where the present Hall now stands and was named St. Marks. The stone Church was commenced in 1868, the foundation stone being laid by Bishop Tufnell and opened by Archdeacon Glennie. Later additions were made in 1939-40, and the bell tower was added in 1960 and opened by Princess Alexandria. The Church is now known as the Anglican Church.
