The First Stores in Warwick |
There was a Shrewd Scot named George Walker storekeeper and bookkeeper working for Colin Campbell at Glengallan. Walker first built a bark store opposite to where the Glengallan Shire Council office once stood. Meanwhile Fred Bracker had a man named a Mr. Marcus Berkman in his employment at Rosenthal. Berkman had been in business in England as a saddler before coming to Warwick and he could see that there was a good opening for a general store in the town. He bought an allotment at the first land sale within the town and built a brick store in Albion Street, the first brick building to be built in the |
| town. These two stores were great acquisitions to the town. Then came that of John Bowen, these men had a good knowledge of what stock was required for the district, quickly set to work to get it. | |
